Answer the following questions dealing with translations.

 1. Under the translation , the point (2,5) will become (5,7). True False Explanation The translation tells you to add 3 to the x-value and add 2 to the y-value.

 2. Under the translation the point (-2,3) will become (-3,1). True False Explanation The correct answer is (-3,5).  Subtract 1 from the x-value and add 2 to the y-value.

 3. Under a translation of 5 units up and 2 units to the left, the point (3,4) will become (8,6). True False Explanation The correct answer is (1,9).  "Up" changes the y-value and "left" changes the x-value. Movement left is negative.

 4. Which vector describes the translation seen on this set of axes? Explanation Each coordinate moves 4 units to the right and 9 units downward.

 5. Under the vector the point (-3,-10) will be translated to ________. (-1, -7) (-1, -13) (-5, -7) (-5, -13) Explanation This translation moves the point 2 units left and 3 units upward.

 6. This graph illustrates a translation. True False Explanation A translation does not rotate the diagram.

 7. This graph illustrates a translation of True False Explanation The original diagram was moved 6 units to the right and 2 units down.

 8. This graph illustrates a translation of True False Explanation The translation is (x-3,y-6).  Be careful not to confuse your x and y coordinates.

 9. This graph illustrates a translation of True False Explanation The original diagram was moved 7 units to the left and 4 units up.

 10. a.  Which point is the image of point D under Answer C b.  Which point is the image of point A under Answer B c.  Which point is the image of point B under Answer C

 11. Describe the translation that will move rectangle ABCD onto rectangle A'B'C'D'. Answer 7 right, 5 down or (x,y) maps to (x+7,y-5) or T(7,-5).

 12. What single translation accomplishes the same as the translation followed by followed by (Use the graph to follow the path of these translations.  Start at point A.) Answer (x,y) maps to (x+4,y-4)

 13. A logo was created using two rectangles where rectangle A'B'C'D' was the translation of rectangle ABCD.  The table of translations is shown below. a.  Find the coordinates   of point B. Answer B(-6,4) b.  Find the coordinates of point D'. Answer D' (5,-2) c.  Describe the translation used in designing this logo. Answer Add 3, subtract 1 or (x,y) -> (x+3, y-1) or T(3,-1)

Graph your graph paper and answer the following questions
dealing with translations.

1.
Graph and label the translation of triangle ABC under translation

2.
A translation maps the origin to the point (-3,1).  Graph the images of the points M, A, T and H under this same translation.
