Warm-up for Quartiles
Topic Index | Algebra Index | Regents Exam Prep Center

A warm-up exercise for studying quartiles:

Supplies:    Hand out strips of paper with data equally spaced and in ascending order.   A strip can be easily prepared on a word processor and then duplicated for class use.  Cut into strips on a paper cutter.

Directions:     Ask students to fold the strip into four equal parts and then open the strip.

This will lead to a discussion of what each fold represents.  If the fold does not pass through a data value, discuss how to find this value.
