See
Cryptic Cubes for directions on making cubes for algebraic
practice and template for recording answers.

Using cubes with Adding/Subtracting Polynomials:

1. Prepare two cubes which contain polynomial expressions.    (A third cube could be prepared that contains operations:  Add, Subtract, Evaluate when x = 5, y = -3, Evaluate when x = -2, y = 4, etc.)

2. Inform students of the directions:   "Roll the two cubes, record the polynomials on the answer sheet, then ADD (or SUBTRACT) the polynomials."

3. Possible expressions for the cubes are shown below.

Cube #1 - cut, fold, and tape.

3x + y

x² + 4x

2x - 6

x² - 2y

-2x +4

3y - 2x

Cube #2 - cut, fold, and tape.

2x -3y

x² - 3x

x + 5

x² +4y

-3x - 2

2y - x
