6a. Organic Chemistry: Saturated Resources
BioChemNet: Organic Chemistry (Dyann K. Schmidel) A directory of organic resources. Includes tutorials, models and databases, nomenclature, problems sets and quizzes, and lab experiments. ChemFinder (CambridgeSoft) This is a database of chemicals. Classes of Organic Compounds (Internet Science Room) Alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones, organic acids, amines and amides. Hydrocarbons (Internet Science Room) Hydrocarbons, you learn what they are, where they come from, and the general and structural formulas of alkanes. You can also practice naming comounds. Organic chemistry (ChemWeb) A large site with active links to these topic sites: nature of organic chemistry; organic families; groups; open-chain and ring compounds; structure and physical properties; hydrocarbons; alkanes; alkenes and alkynes; aromatic hydrocarbons; alcohols and ethers; water; amines and ammonia; carbonyl compounds; aldehydes and ketones; carboxylic acids; organic polymers. Also links to carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Organic Chemistry Notes (Eric Epp) General overview and structural examples of various alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aromatic rings, substitution and addition reactions, alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, acids, esters, amines, amides, amino acids, soaps and aspirin. Organic Compounds-Alkanes (University of Akron) General overview, formulas, models & isomers, alkanes, alkane nomenclature, cycloalkanes, sources and reactions, alkyl halides, summary, key reactions and practice. The Organic Chemistry Virtual Tutor (Colby Chemistry Department) Click on the title page and then go directly into "Melting and boiling points of alkanes" or start at the beginning to understand best. Great, moving diagrams are used to explain how melting and boiling points of an alkane relates to its branching. |
