Graphing Multiple Transformations
Topic Index | Geometry Index | Regents Exam Prep Center

Once students have grasped the concepts of translations, reflections and dilations, you will want to create activities that require combining multiple transformations to form new images.

These activities are good exercises for group work.  Each member of the group should submit all drawings to keep all group members on task, or individual members of the group can be assigned certain tasks.

Example 1:

Given triangle A(-9,-3), B(-3,3), C(0,0), draw the image formed by a dilation with center at the origin and scale factor or 2/3,
followed by a reflection in the y-axis, and followed by translation .

Example 2:

Describe two transformations that together could have been used to create the image A'.
