A fast and easy way to demonstrate the concept of dilations is with a balloon.  Print a message or draw a diagram on a balloon.  Blow up the balloon.  Discuss what is happening to the drawing.  Discuss the center of the dilation and the possible scalar factor.  This is a great anticipatory set for a lesson.
