Currently, there are two New York State Regents Biology Exams. The old exam is still being
administered to most schools in the state. The new exam, which is based upon the Living
Environment Syllabus, will be administered to a select group of schools
including Oswego High School.
The new pilot exam consists of four parts, as follows:
Part A
Approximately 50 content-based, multiple-choice questions
assessing core material. This accounts for about 30% of exam.
Part B
Content and skills based, multiple-choice and constructed response
science, inquiry, and problem solving in a context which describes an
investigation and poses questions related to it. This accounts for
about 30% of exam.
Part C
Content and application, extended constructed response based on
scenarios depicting real world problems/situations which require application
of science content specific to the scenario. This accounts for about
25% of exam.
Part D
Lab Performance Task includes tasks linked to laboratory exercises.
This accounts for about 15% of exam grade and is given before the date of
the 3-hour final exam.
